CANDLELIGHT
(For Ruth - November 2008)
The flame still burns,
A little lower now
And flickering now and then.
But burns it does.
Its fuel's the peace
Of calm acceptance
Of life's cruel deck of cards,
And a calm resolve
To make the most of that.
It burns for now
And will endure,
Long into the darkening night.
In 2008, our very dear friend in Manchester, Ruth Leigh, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. We saw her in November of that year just as the disease was beginning to take its toll. Our family had come to know and love Ruth and her husband, Jon over the best part of thirty years. This was a tragedy of massive proportions.
Ruth died in November 2010.
